Tourism was one of the most affected economy sectors by the pandemic. According to Istoé Dinheiro, losses are estimated at 30 billion dollars only in aviation. According to the UN, the impact of COVID-19 on tourism could cost the global economy 4 trillion dollars. However, after the first wave of the pandemic, people began to return to normality, with tourists increasingly going on vacation abroad and their number increased by 130% in January 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 (OMT) .

In relation to adventure and nature travel, 50% of North Americans prefer their post-pandemic trips to be in outdoor environments and experiences with small groups, rather than in very touristy places, which tend to have a high movement of people. (Destination Analysts). There was an increase from 11% to 16% in people interested in camping with their families after the pandemic, while 32% of participants report that they have never camped in their lives, which could be a potential for growth (Kampgrounds of America).

In this way, there is a great opportunity to create solutions that help nature tourism travelers to configure their experience in a customizable and safe way.

The challenge

After research carried out with travelers, it was discovered that they like to experience new cultures and use the internet as a tool to create their travel itinerary. Almost half feel insecure about hire an independent tour guide. Most interviewees like nature. Most people like to know in advance what is going on to happen on the trip, however, they also like surprises along the way.

In summary, the travelers want to live different and personalized experiences in adventure tourism need an easy and reliable way to find tourism service providers because large travel portals do not provide flexibility and customization in their packages.

The solution

Thus, the value propostition defined was: if we connect travelers interested in nature tourism with tour guides who live in destination locations, then tourists will have a more amazing experience and locals will be able to generate income because it is difficult to find independent reliable guides.

Therefore, an application was designed where the user could have direct contact with tourist guides in the location where they want, and book their travel experience without intermediaries, in a practical and customizable way.

The process

How might we:  analyze how the product can solve the client’s problems.

Persona:  identify the personal, social, professional and behavioral aspects that can impact the product features.

User Journey:  timeline creation estimating the user’s feelings, actions and desires.

Benchmarking:  competitors study, identifying strengths, weaknesses, tone of voice, information architecture and other aspects that can serve as inspiration for the project.

Moodboard:  table with visual references that serves as a guide for defining colors, shapes, grid and other elements of the product’s visual identity.

Styleguide:  fonts and colors settings defined from the research made.
